Preparation Phase
After discussion, I and my friend start to search and contacting some place for us to do Social Engagement Project. We decided to go to orphanage/refugees's place and luckily we got a place after several rejection. Rumah Hope is a sanctuary for abused, neglected and underprivileged children which located at Petaling Jaya and took around 10 minutes for us to go there by car. We plan our schedule for 4 times visiting them and every single slot is filled with different activities. In addition, we came out with a list on what we should buy to prevent over-budget as CITRA just supply RM50 as a modal for each of us. A week before we started our program at Rumah Hope, me and my friends, Amina and Myraquratuain did some shopping stuff such as snacks, stationary including A4 paper, marker pen, pencil and pencil colour because we will have some activities with the children. It was a enjoyable moment and i was so excited during this shopping time in thought of meeting them later.
On-going Phase
We visiting them for 4 times every Wednesday on April. Each of day, we filled it with different activities. For the first visit, we start the activity with ice breaking session. For making the children more interested, we played a game call "Kotak Beracun" while introducing our name. We sitting in a circle, played some music, passing around the snack and when the music stop, the person who is holding the snack need to introduce themselves. We had so much joy and the children are pleased for having us. Second visiting, we help the children to do their homework. I teach the standard one student on how to write the alphabets and read some books with them. It was an honour to get to teach them and i think they do need another educational teacher or tutor other than going to school because some of them just do not know anything. We continue our activities with colouring and sport session. The children were excited for colouring the picture that we prepared while some of the boys played the badminton with us. Third visiting, we just cleaning the store room at Rumah Hope. All of us were all determined even we do no have enough man power. For the last visit, we did some games such as crossword puzzle, drawing and quiz. We can see that, some of them are born with talent in drawing. We gather all together and took pictures as a memories. Also, we gave them goodies bag that contain some snacks for them. We were saying goodbye to each other and hoping we can meet again someday.
Post-program Phase
It such a wonderful memories where we got to clean the study area, book-selves and store room. Playing games with them gave us release our stress from the assignment and studies also the children were also excited because not every time they got played around like this. I really hope that the teaching session are helping for them because i was sad when they had to struggle by themself doing the study and work. In addition, i really feel blessed for my life because i was born with such a nice family, environment and i got to study comfortably. I just prayed that the children will become successful person in future.
