Preparation phase

The first 2 weeks of our lecture on the social engagement course , we have been asked for a community project under CITRA and we have to create a group of 8 that consist of different gender and racial .We have given a few week to decide the location and prepare our proposal that  need us to present with our supervisor. The place that we have agreed for our project is Rumah Hope at Petaling Jaya at every Wednesday from 11a.m to 7.a.m for 4 times .Rumah Hope is a sanctuary placed for abused ,neglected and underprivileged children .We have a quick visit to the place to meet the administration while we make a survey there as we have to organize activities based on the demographic at the place . Tentative for the project has been made and several activities will be organize and we have bought some sweets and things required for our activities. This will be my first time joining a project that involve this community  and it will be honour to me to give full support .

On-going Phase

For 4 days we visit there by our own transport and every day we have different activities .For the first day , it an awkward moment to see the children but i manage to break it and we have a simple ice breaking with them and we play some game to make them comfortable with our presence. At there , we play a lot of games such as charades, snake and ladder , badminton ,drawing and colouring. We also help the staff to set up a new bed as there will be newcomer at the place and we do some cleaning and helping them serving food to the children .When the children went back from school , we help them with their homework by guiding them . There are some challenges that we need to face such as there no water in one of the day and we have to carry a few bucket of water and bring it to the 2nd floor , it was so tiring but that create a great moment for us .

Post - program phase

In conclusion, as we reflect, we gained few lessons throughout the Social Engagement activities. We were able to create awareness to the children on the importance of educational pathway for a better future. We are also satisfied with our efforts to bring good to the society in making known the vitality of education in life. We also understood that involving into a social responsibility event, should there be no differences in beliefs or culture pointed out to make an improved society. As students of UM, we believe that the hopes are upon us to make the society come together to clean the environment, thus creating a better place for the future generation. We also do feel that the unfortunate do need attention from the society as they should not be left behind from the nation’s progress. We trust that the future will be better if the reflections we poured here is fully propelled in the society.
